Paper-based microfluidics is a low cost alternative to physically-isolated wells made out of other materials like silicone, glass, or plastic. Paper is attractive for microfluidic systems for a number of reasons; including inexpensive material costs, compatibility with a number of biomedical and chemical assays, and the liberation from expensive external driving forces for fluid transport. Capillary action pulls liquid through the device, so syringe pumps and other systems are not required. Simply place a drop of your solution on one end of the paper and watch it travel through the confined channels.
